There is nothing unfair about how SSgt “Manhart” was punished. The woman was demoted because she broke the rules and stipulations which she agreed to abide by when she first joined the military in the 90s. There are regulations concerning participating in things which “have a negative impact on the image of the United States Air Force” which you, obviously, either don’t know about or don’t care about. This woman broke the regulations and was treated with the same fairness that she treated her trainees who broke the rules while she was serving as a military training instructor. I know, because she was MY instructor. So back off.
First of all I view you as a coward coming to my site and making such post, yet hiding behind the word “Anonymous.” But let us do please review your simple minded post, shall we:
<>
George W. Bush as commander in Chief has a negative impact on this nation and that of the U.S. Military every damn day. He has a negative impact on the lives of each and every man and woman that now serve in Iraq. Michelle was on her own time when these photos were taken and thus not bound by any written bullshit from the U.S. Air force.
There are men and woman dying daily in Iraq in our drive to spread freedom to all. We have invaded illegally a nation who done no harm to this nation. We raped their lands and killed their people..for the sake of freedom my good sir. Michelle manhart posing naked in a mag like this is what freedom is all about. It people like you that cause a negative impact not just the Uniform you wear but the nation for which you protect and serve!
Michelle Manhart has the freedom and the right to do as she wishes on her own time, when not on duty, and not representing the United States Military.
This is the best example of freedom I have ever seen. A brave American who was willing to dye for this nation expressing her freedoms as an American. If you are the military professorial you claim to be then you would be bothered not by this very beautiful woman but by your fellow soldiers being blown away in a military action we need not be in..while Bin Laden threatens this nation daily!
To Justin,
While you are certainly enthusiastic, you are ill-informed. The anonymous poster above is quite correct in that, regardless of what you refer to as, “off time”, this woman was still subject to the laws contained in the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Furthermore, everyone who serves in uniform, male or female, active or reserve knows well enough that they are a soldier, sailor, marine or airman 24 hours a day and not strictly between the hours of 8 and 5. I realize this is a difficult concept for a civilian such as yourself to fully grasp so I’ll not expect you to do so. I merely state it as fact, whether you choose to believe it or not.
Your views on the war and our president, while most certainly entitled, do not carry the gravity of those of someone who has served and has first-hand knowledge of life in the service of our country. You would be well served by asking a few servicemen or women what their feelings are of the war, Bush, terrorism, Bin Laden and women posing for Playboy. You might then get a better grasp of the opinions of the military rather than simply speculating and posting your speculations here.
I hope you continue to cherish the freedom afforded to you by those very men and women in uniform for whom you choose so liberally to speak.
To SGT A:
You’re right I will keep enjoying my freedoms given to me by the brave men and woman who have given their lives for this nation and as given to me in the U.s. Constitution.
Our disgrace of a President and his bitches have gone across the world trying to spread freedom and our way of life. Yet we fail to honor it and give it to our own people. I am fully aware of the rules by which all members of military live by and I do not need you to remind me. She broke the rules…ok given her a written reprimand in her record.
If we lined up the men in the military that violated those rules good sir..I wonder how long, or how many states, that line would cover. Of course I am sure that many of the nay-sayers wouldnt want thwe good ole boys to smacked now would they sgt
It is true, she was bound by the Uniform Code of Military Justice at all times. In fact, when she joined she took an oath where she swore to abide by its rules. She even signed several pieces of paper that were very explicit in regards to the fact that so long as she is in the service she is bound by its rules. She even had to agree to those same things, sign the same papers when she re-enlisted. I know because I just went through it.
There is no such thing as personal time in the military. It all belongs to Uncle Sam for the period an individual has agreed to give up. She volunteered and knew what she was getting into from the start so it is not like this was pulled out of no-where. If a person gets all butt hurt it is because they are a sociopath to some greater or lesser degree. They figure that the rules do not apply to them for any number of a host of reasons.
She took her chances and she has to suffer the consequences. She achieved her “dream” and now she has to wake up. Sucks to be her.
It must be hot to see someone you know get naked on playboy.
Having actually been in the military, I recall nothing that forbod poses naked. I was aware of this when it first became and issue, and thought it was a load of crap then that she was going to be given an article 15. However that ability is completely with in the rights of the military. Soldier help defend our way of life, or freedom and our rights as defined by the Constitution. The greatest irony is that soldiers themselves are not provided those same rights and privledges.
To say that she was demoted do to a lack of integrity or for having a negative impact on the image of the United States Air Force; is a load of horse shit. In the over all scheme of things the image of the air force was neither tarnished nor polished by this incident. As proof it’s a year plus later and no one thinks about Manhart when you mention the air force.
About the only reason that I could support the military for any disciplinary actions, is the amount of authority that is undermined by her posing for a magazine that is sold in every PX I’ve even been to. Oddly though, I had lewd and lavicious thoughts about any sexy women in uniform. If they had more rank than I did, I still had to do what I was told, ever if I did want to bend them over and do them doggy style.
So the reasons for her demotion and punishment are complete bullshit, but it is with in the ringht of the military to perform those actions for remarkably stupid reasons.
Everyone in the military knows not to do these things. Article 134 of the UCMJ states “anything not covered in other areas of the UCMJ, goes against good order and discipline (a commander has a responsibility to maintain good order and discipline in his unit, which these kinds of things are detrimental to) or brings discredit apon the armed forced. Active duty military are bound by the UCMJ 24/7. On or off duty, in or out of uniform, on or off post. Doesn’t matter. And GW doesn’t have a negative impact on the whole military, if he did, there would be no one left. Good try though, carry on.
John before you make an ass of yourself do your homework:
Key word here is “active duty” she was not “active” at the time of her fuck job. Even the Military has admitted this.
Good try though, carry on.
John, she hasn’t affected the “order and discipline of the unit”. She hasn’t “discredited” anything. In fact, she had a perfect record, – had been nominated for best training instructor etc. – had a stellar career. I’m sure she’ll do fine in whatever career she chooses. It’s the military that keeps having to lower their recruiting requirements. I think her demotion speaks more to the military’s character and intellect, than to hers, – a bunch of simpletons. A commander (command structure) with even the least amount of management ability, would have found a way through the difficulty without having to turn his back on his troop. It reminds me of when Duke University turned it’s back on it’s hockey team when they were accused of rape. Sgt Manhart was probably worth fighting for, but he turned his back on her. She should be glad she didn’t have to go to combat with him. If I were in his unit after that, I’d put in for a transfer. I prefer to be with people who “watch my 6″.
Ok what she did was in violation of the ucmj but think about the money. She was demoted and that isn’t issued by her group it is issued by at the min her wing or higher she chose to leave the air force but she is modeling now and makes well more than she did. Art 92 talks about sexual acts poses etc oral sex in a violation and any publication or partisaration in nude or pornographic publications she is making a lot of money now i doubt she regrets it he anything she’s happier
I’m not going to go all into military codes, whether or not she was on her “own time”, or image of the military. The simple truth is that in the military, just like pretty much any other realm, there are politics involved. Whether or not she was in violation of anything, this was about politics regarding making an example out of someone, damage control, and/or higher ups trying to keep people off thier backs. We all know that while there are laws for everything, the question is when people in authority do or don’t make us answer to them. Even if they knew she didn’t violate anything, they still would have put her through the ringer in order to make a statement about themsleves moreso than actually go after her.
I think it obvious as the noise on your face you can not see the forrest for the hatred of a singal tree. That tree being George W Bush. As CIC of our Armed Forces it was within the president’s authority to have intervined in the matter of SSgt Michell Manhart’s diciplinary action but presidents don’t do such things as their are far more inportant matters requiring their attention, plus they would be foolish to override the authority of those placed in command below him who act in good faith of their service branch and within the rule. That is what deligation of authority is all about. But Please do, I beg of you, offer up to the public here ssome proof of your accusation the president himself “ordered” the S/Sgt removed from active duty, put back on Air National Guard reserve status, and reduced in grade to Senior Airmen!!!!!! The Gov of Iowa is CIC of the Iowa Air National Guard unless it is called up to federal active duty! NOT the president! She was reduced in rank by Iowa National Guard command, not the USAF. Nor was she “discharged”! This women was a USAF basic training drill instructor. Their JOB is to teach proper personal conduct under the UCMJ and Air Force Regulations, proper militray bearing both on and off duty, proper grooming standards and many other things the “normal” USAF NCO doesn’t have to deal with on a normal duty day with airmen placed in his charge. She went through additional NCO training to be a drill instructor the average USAF NCO never gets. She knew the rules. She KNEW the danger she was placing her militray carrier in, and she knew it before she ever got naked for Playboy. If anyone, at all, “abused” the women it was Playboy because they knew the harm their monthly spread would do to her military carrier also!
They could have cared less about her Air Force carrier and the affects this whole thing would have on her future. Why anyone would argue with you over this is amazing to me after having read the comical replies you have been making to commenters. I won’t argue with you. You don’t have a clue what real military life is all about and the rights and priviledges of American Citizenship one foregoes for the priviledge and HONOR of wearing the uniform and serving the country. One is on duty 24-7-365. There is no such a thing as “being on your own time”, period. You are just off duty for a few hours but you are in ready service 24 hours a day, everyday. The service branch you are in has full control over your private life, and all it’s aspects. SSgt Manhart is no better than anyother member of the Air Force. Better looking than the majority for sure, but no better than or above the regs, and in the end she got as good as she gave to the service and the memory of those of us who came before her, both living and dead, and those she was serving with. And most of all, those who gave their last full measure of devotion to American while in her service, in ALL service branches. I was honored to have served 8 years active and two ready reseve with the USAF, and we ALL knew the meaning of, and bad results from, “conduct unbecoming”. That aside, how right you are, Michelle Manhart is a complete and total BABYDOLL and we who have seen her NA-kid have in fact, “got lucky”. But as I said, think and say what you like about the Ssgt’s troubles. You do have that right and millions of us have served to allow it to be so.
Dave I am sorry to say in this case George W. Bush did order it and it was done under his order. Her unit was active at the time of the order and that means he is fully control of her unit.
Matt: I really do not give a shit about Military codes. Men in the United States Military have done far worse..and never got that type treatment..this is a proven fact. She was on her on time and violated no law. There was no reason for such action and the only reason the action was taken is because of what is between her legs. Thank God on appeal her benie’s were restored due to her being found at fault for no real violation.
